Flowers for the Rabbit year

Plants and flowers are a very important element in Chinese New Year decorations especially in China. During this time of the year the houses of the locals are blooming with different flowers and plants that symbolize growth and prosperity for the coming year. I don't have the habit to buy plants for Chinese New Year as i think it is a waste because these flowers will die soon after the season. But this year... Ops! I can't help myself!

Chrysanthemum signifies great joy and happiness

Yesterday, i also bought a pot of Pussy Willow from the newly opened nursery opposite my office (sounds good ay, after a hectic day can go lepak at the nursery haha). I actually wanted to buy a pot of lime tree after i read a post from Autumn Belle on Buying Citrus Lime Trees for Chinese New Year . But there were not much lime trees left for sale and the good ones are all sold. So i brought a pot of Pussy Willow back home instead. The gardener told me this plant can live for 1 year in our climate if place it indoor. Pussy Willow is one of those things that you get once a year and it is very much like a Christmas tree for Christmas. Since the Chinese like numerous blossoms on a branch, the many buds of the willow make it a favourite flower for Chinese New Year.
Pussy Willow signifies growth which represent
the coming of prosperity
Can you spot Winnie the Pooh? My daughter also joined in the fun decorating the house for the CNY with her stickers, lol.
Wish you have a happy week!

The chrysanthemums are beautiful. Why all yellow? Your favourite colour? I bought many pots last year but they didn't last as long as I would like them to.

One: Yellow because they sell more yellow pots. Yellow represents gold, 'money roll roll come'!! LOL

Fer: I was not so festive 10yrs ago. But now esp this year i've been buying so much plants as CNY decor. Maybe this is a sign of ageing, hahaha.

I love those pussy willows. Ours won't bloom until May.
They remind me of my grandma.Long story but she used to get them and sew little eyes on them and whiskers. She was a fun lady.

I wonder why it is called pussy willow. This is my first time looking at them. Usually when I go visiting on CNY, I only notice the citrus plants or chrysanthemums. I think the red colour flower suits rabbit year so much.

First, happy new year! I really like chrysanthemums, yours are great. In my country they are the most popular at fall.
