Eggshells- 'secret' revealed

A lot of friends have been asking me, why am i so crazy over eggshells?

Eggshells, eggshells, eggshells... oh yes i love eggshells...

In some lucky days, i managed to collect a basket full of eggshells
in just a day!!

See how the train caterpillars avoiding eggshells in the pot

Besides making eggshells fertilizer, i use 'em a lot to help me to deter slugs, snails, caterpillars and the like in the garden. Because these creatures have to slither along the ground with only a mucous membrane for protection, laying eggshells around the plants will stop them in their tracks. When they find no way but to move out from the soil, it encourages animals higher up the food chain like birds to visit the garden more often as all these pest littering around are too good to miss out on... By the way, this is not any secret recipe, you can always google it from the internet :)

Happy gardening!

Good idea Milka! How did you grind the eggshells to become so small? I am so lazy to break it to small pieces.

The other day someone was suggesting using eggshells to make roses bloom better. Now as pest control.... great!

I read about this in one of my gardening magazines.

I put them around my herbs and it really did help with the slugs.

Hi Milka,
I'm sorry to hear you've had a bad day. Here's some sun shiney thoughts your way from me! Let's chase those blues away ;)

Thanks for the info on the eggshells. I've recently had snails eating my plants, not a nice surprise at all.

Here's to a good weekend for you. Glad you liked the cemetery, I love the peacefulness there too, very much!

Hi Milka, How did you crush those shells? Do you have to use a lot for a small area? It didn't work for me before. I find tiny snails beneath the shells. But perhaps it was because the eggs I used were not fine enough.

Eggshells are fantastic for slugs. Its amazing how well they work and its great to be able to use something that would otherwise got to a landfill.
